I’ve really been enjoying everything that I’ve been able to get my hands on from this brewery.
Let’s get to the website, greenflashbrew.com, and see what kind of info we can find out about this beer.
An ‘out of the box’ modern ale crafted by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. Dry-Hopped and Bottle-Conditioned – it’s a zesty brew with enticing American hop and fruity Belgian yeast aromatics.
Let’s give it a go.
The Le Freak comes in a 12 oz. bottle and it has an ABV of 9.2%.
It poured a cloudy, deep orange color. The crown was off white, kind of soapy and sudsy, however it was sized nicely. The retention time was mostly average and it left some ok lacing behind as well as a thin skim of clear alcohol on the sides of the snifter.
The nose brought out hints of lemon citrus and spices of coriander and pepper. Further fruity hints of grapefruit along with a very floral component. It seemed to have a solid backbone of bread, wheat and yeast too. This beer smelled pretty good. It was balanced well I thought.
The flavor was quite citrusy and spicy. A very manageable medium strength bitterness from some grapefruit was combined with a “bitey” pepper and coriander. A little bit of a lemongrass hop profile intermingled well with a sturdy bready/yeasty core. Not bad at all. Rather pleasing to be honest.
The mouthfeel was medium bodied. Very bright, lively, snappy, crisp and dry. Kind of refreshing also. The carbonation was near perfect for the style I thought. Just a smidgen of warmth was felt and a good amount of flavor was left behind after each sip.
Overall, I thought this was a very good brew. Very nice for warmer months, but could probably be enjoyed no matter the season. I’ll tell ya, I am really liking the products that Green Flash is churning out. We’ve only been able to get their stuff for about the last 6 months or so and we are a little bit limited on the number of beers that we can get from them, so I’m hoping they start sending a few more our way. Anyway, have you guys ever tried the Green Flash Le Freak? If not, pick it up and give it a whirl. Be sure to leave a comment and tell me all about your experience too.
Thanks for checking back in on another review guys. I appreciate it.
Until next time. Cheers.
