Review of Mahr’s Brau Pilsner

Hi guys.  For today’s craft beer review I’m going to be trying the Mahr’s Brau Pilsner produced by the Mahr’s Brau Brewery located in Bamberg, Germany.

I’ve never tried a beer from these guys before, although I’ve heard that they make some nice stuff, so I’m looking forward to this one.

The website, mahrs-braeu.de, is currently under construction and I wasn’t able to find any kind of information regarding this beer anywhere else, so we are just going to have to try it and see what we find.

Let’s do this.

This Pilsner comes in a 16.9 oz. bottle and it has an ABV of 5.0%.

It poured a very clear, straw yellow to light gold color.  The head was bright white and it showed some decent girth.  It was soapy, soft and a bit rocky.  The retention time was mostly average and the lacing appeared to be a touch underscored also.

The nose revealed some very nice and clean bready malts.  Hints of crackers and fresh loafs of white bread teamed up with freshly cut grains and some sturdy grassy hops.  A light floral compound was also noticed as well as an admirable sweetness and a negligible fruitiness of ripe apples.  This bouquet was very well balanced and proper for the style.

The taste showed some very clean and crisp malts.  Dried wafers, breads and crackers really tasted nice and brought out a touch of diversity.  Freshly cut grass and grains opened up after a moment or two.  The hoppiness was quite relaxed and the bitterness was, for the most part, modest.  The ripe apples were noticed, but they seemed to be more of a complimentary savor rather than a dominate aspect.  The taste was very similar to the aroma.  Nothing out of the ordinary or surprising.  Just a solid, well balanced and cordial taste.

The mouthfeel was medium to medium/thin.  It was crisp, snappy, smooth, thirst quenching, refreshing and mostly dry.  The carbonation was spot on, but only a very scant amount of flavor was left on the palate.

Overall, I thought this was a pretty tasty and good beer.  It was super easy to drink that’s for sure.  Obviously perfect for Spring.  It was quite simple in the aroma and taste.  Nothing overly complex or confusing, however it was entirely sturdy, sound, fitting and suitable.  I enjoyed drinking it very much.  I’m not usually a very big Pilsner fan, however I wouldn’t mind having a few of these during one session.  I would recommend it with no problem whatsoever.  So, if you see the Mahr’s Brau Pilsner give it a test drive and let me know what you thought of it.

What brewery do you guys think makes the best Pilsner?  Leave a comment if you wish.

Thanks for reading folks.  I hope that you all are still enjoying the reviews.

Until next time.  Cheers.
